About

Hillhurst United Church is an Affirming ministry in the heart of Kensington in Calgary. The motto is: "Whoever you are, wherever you're at, join us in the journey!" An Affirming congregation, no matter one's age, gender identity or expression, heath status, race, sexual orientation, differing abilities, religious or ethnic background or economic circumstance, all are welcome. The pillars of 'radical hospitality', 'spirituality', 'social justice' and 'risk taking' guide all aspects of the community.

I am the acting Communications Lead for Hillhurst from December 2019 to May 2020 and in this role am responsible for Hillhurst communications, social media and media relations strategies, both internally and externally to the organization. Working in an atmosphere of respect, tolerance and inclusive affirmation, I gained specific experience in best practices for community of faith communications.

Project Overview

Using Canva, I created this connect card series that will live in the pews of the church to engage with any and all visitors who enter the space. The four cards layer so the four headers of each are visible at a glance. As the pew card holders are 3 inches tall and tapered to the back of the pew, the smallest card is 5 inches tall so the title isn't obscured. The card holders are 5 inches wide and as such, the cards are 4.75 inches wide.

Using design principles, corporate colours and typeface known to Hillhurst United, I designed these cards to create an interactive way for new congregants to engage.
